The Law Office of Kip O’Connor is a small town law firm that provides quality legal services at a reasonable price to a diverse clientele, with concentrations in criminal defense, DUI and family law litigation.

The firm’s criminal defense practice focuses primarily on DUI, traffic offenses, assault / domestic violence, drug, juvenile/minor in possession of alcohol, theft, burglary and property crimes. The firm takes a risk management approach with our clients’ criminal issues, engaging in day-to-day advice and contact with our clients and ongoing work to evaluate our clients’ needs to minimize the potential harm that may result from a possible criminal conviction.

Attorney Profile

Kip O’Connor was raised in a military family with a strong tradition of military service. Both of Kip’s grandfathers, his father, and two uncles were all career Naval Officers.

Kip graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1989 and was commissioned as an Officer in the United States Navy. He served in the United States Navy as a Naval Warfare Officer for seven years.  After leaving the Navy, Kip worked in the chemical engineering and sales field, where he developed an interest in the study of law.

In 2000, Kip graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law with honors (cum laude). After graduating from law school, he was admitted to practice law in Maryland and worked for a private law firm with a concentration in criminal defense and civil law. Kip handled hundreds of felony and misdemeanor criminal cases, personal injury cases, and divorce and child custody cases.

In 2004, Kip moved to Redstone, Colorado where he has significant family ties to the area. He was admitted to practice law in Colorado in 2005 and began his legal career in the Roaring Fork Valley. Kip worked as a prosecutor for the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Glenwood Springs and Aspen.  As a Deputy District Attorney, he gained valuable experience and insight into how cases are prosecuted. He has prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases, including DUI cases, domestic violence cases, drug cases, assault and harassment cases, and many others. In the private sector, Kip has worked for several private law firms in the area, handling DUIs, criminal cases, divorce and child custody cases, personal injury cases and has litigated cases in County Court, District Court, and Colorado’s Appellate Court.

Kip is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Maryland Bar Association, the 9th Judicial District Bar Association, and the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar Association. Kip has 12 years of legal experience and a proven track record of winning cases.

In his spare time Kip enjoys hiking, backpacking, skiing, rafting and spending time with his girlfriend and family.
